OPPOSE THE UTAH FITS BILL

This year, though a “multi-pronged approach,” we now have an OMNIBUS bill  (in the way of the “swamp,”) and multiple auxiliary bills to execute the problematic “UtahFits” agenda.  True to form, it is not good policy or legislative effort.

There are multiple reasons to oppose the bill, including but not limited to the following:

  1. “The Utah Fits All bill passed the House Friday morning (which is the fastest many have seen a bill of this magnitude pass through after just having received its committee hearing yesterday afternoon, especially considering it was immediately moved along to it’s next step in the process by being placed on the Senate Education Committee’s agenda for Monday). Putting the fast-track observations aside, something else happened that is worth noting.
    • The House passed the 3rd substitute, which included the requirement for scholarship students to submit a portfolio showcasing what they worked on that year to the program managing entity…. or…. the parents can just choose to have them take the test!
    • We didn’t even have to wait a year for accountability requirements to slowly be added in, just half a day!
      • Ask yourself, “why that was added in?” Then ask yourself if you think that will be enough to satisfy the endless cries for accountability & equity in the years to come.”  ~Pamela Budge
  2. Data mining and tracking is now REQUIRED of all recipients.
  3. This is an omnibus bill (meaning it covers more than one issue. This forces legislators to vote for a bad piece of policy to get a possibly good piece. The alternative is to vote no to the bad piece, which prevents the good piece from passing. This compromises our lawmaking system. Think BRIBE.)
  4. It is not the government’s job to create competition, it is the government’s job to prevent monopolies.
  5.  Private businesses should not be subsidized by taxes, or they will cease to be private.  Education is not an exception.

Write the legislature and assert your position that they VOTE NO on any and all UTAH FITS legislation and undercurrent bills that may lay the foundation for its enaction.
